Beja, City of Arts, announces Minister of Cultural Affairs

Minister of Cultural Affairs Mohamed Zine El Abidine announced on Sunday that Beja was chosen as a city of arts and civilisations for the year 2017.

During a visit to the region, the minister said that the archaeological site of Beja will be restored through the organisation of a weekly cultural event and several festivals including the Medina festival.

The year 2017 will be one of the major cultural reforms, emphasised the minister announcing the achievement of cultural projects in all the delegations, such as the achievement a culture centre in Amdoun.

In a statement to TAP, Mohamed Zine El Abidine stressed that the intellectuals and creators of the region and all the other regions are called to present projects reflecting their aspirations adding that the funding will be granted on the basis of objectives and programmes presented.

He also asserted that, in addition to the budget of the Ministry of Culture, several other programmes will benefit from additional funding, in particular through international partnerships, specifying that the regional councils of culture will be reactivated this year.
