Date exports increase by 42 % (December 27, 2016)

From the beginning of the season from October1 until December 27, 2016, date exports increased by 42% to 140 million Tunisian dinars (MTD), against 98.7 MTD the same period last year, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement on Thursday.

The Exported quantities grew by 22.5% reaching 28.3 thousand tonnes, compared to 23.1 thousand tonnes in the same period of the previous season. The quantities of organic dates exported reached 2.8 thousand tonnes.

The first destination of Tunisian dates are the Western Europe countries (16.2 thousand tonnes), followed by the North Africa countries (6.9 thousand tonnes). Morocco is in the first place with 5.5 thousand tonnes, Italy 4.8 thousand tonnes followed by France (3rd place) with 3.1 thousand tonnes.

During the last season 2015/2016, date exports registered record quantities of 110 thousand tonnes which generated income estimated at 473.3 million dinars.
