Accra: Ghanaian attacker, Thelma Baffour Atuah, has clinched the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League title with TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, following a decisive victory over ASFAR Club in the finals. An early goal by Marlene Yav was sufficient to secure the Central African team’s first championship win, marking a historic moment for the club in the tournament’s records.

According to Ghana News Agency, Baffour, a prominent figure in the Congolese Premier League, played a pivotal role in TP Mazembe’s success. Her inclusion in the team was seen as instrumental by Head Coach Lamia Boumehdi, who attributed much of the team’s triumph to Baffour’s outstanding contributions throughout the competition. The Ghanaian star participated in all five matches, consistently posing a threat to opponents with her formidable presence near the 18-yard box.

Baffour’s victory in the CAF Women’s Champions League makes her the second Ghanaian to achieve this feat since the competition began in 2021. Her impressive
performance this year also saw her secure the 2024 DR Congo President Cup, Women’s Premier League, and the UNIFFAC tournament, further solidifying her status as a key player for TP Mazembe.

The Ghanaian international’s journey has been remarkable, having previously helped Jonina Football Academy advance from Greater Accra Division One League to the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League before joining TP Mazembe. In a conversation with GNA Sports, Baffour expressed her aspirations for a call-up to Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Queens, viewing it as a dream opportunity to showcase her abilities at a higher level.

Reflecting on her achievements, Baffour stated, “2024 has been my year, I must say. My performance in this tournament tells a lot. I gave my all to support my club, and I am happy we have been able to achieve this together. I aspire to play in the big leagues in Europe soon.”
