HPR: Adoption of draft law on violence against women

The House of People’s Representatives ( HPR) adopted on Wednesday in a plenary session the draft organic law n 60-2016 on violence against women by the unanimity of the 146 present deputies.

The bill, which contains 43 articles, lays down provisions to eradicate all forms of gender-based violence in order to achieve gender equality and preserve human dignity.

The bill takes a comprehensive approach, ranging from prevention to criminal prosecution, sanctions and victim protection and assistance.

Launched last Friday, this bill was examined in three plenary sessions.

The Committee on Rights, Freedoms and External Relations within the HPR had unanimously adopted the report on this bill on 10 July.
