Implementation of twinning project between HPR and French and Italian parliaments followed up

The steering committee of the twinning project between the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) and the French and Italian parliaments met on Friday with attendance of HPR Speaker Mohamed Ennaceur and ambassador of the European Union in Tunis, Patrice Bergamini.

Ennaceur said “the meeting is part of implementing the terms of the twinning agreement”.

The project, designed to increase the capacity of the HPR on several levels, lays the foundations for an effective inter-parliamentary partnership, as part of the Tunisian-European neighbourhood policy, he added.

The twinning project is based on six main axes: administrative and financial autonomy, organisation and development of parliamentary action, capacity building of common services, human resources management, parliamentary communication and parliamentary diplomacy, he pointed out.

The ambassador of the European Union in Tunis emphasised the importance of this twinning project, saying it is likely to lay the groundwork for inter-parliamentary co-operation to increase the capacity of the HPR, particularly in terms of experience and expertise.

While commending the efforts made by the parties to the agreement to make this project successful, Patrice Bergamini emphasised the EU’s will to provide more support to Tunisia in all areas.

The three-year twinning project between the HPR and the French and Italian parliaments was launched on January 17, 2016.
