Regional consultations on early childhood development strategy start

Regional consultations on the implementation of a multisectoral strategy for early childhood development for 2017-2021 started on Tuesday.

These consultations, held by the Women, Family and Childhood Ministry, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Bank, will run till February 7.

The first version of this multi-sector strategy will be presented during these consultations to stakeholders who will share their observations and recommendations.

Tabarka city (governorate of Jendouba) will host the first regional consultation dedicated to the governorates of Zaghouan, Kef, Siliana, Jendouba and Beja, a calendar published by the Women Ministry reads.

The first version of this strategy was presented and discussed last November in Tunis.

It also aims at implementing an advocacy programme to integrate early childhood in all national social and economic policies.

The strategy further proposes revising legislation to strengthen access to basic services for early childhood development (maternity and parental leave, social coverage, work conditions of pregnant and lactating women).
