Tunisia-China: three partnership agreements between Tunisian and Chinese private operators signed

Three partnership agreements were signed on Friday on the sidelines of the 5th Tunis Forum on the theme: Tunisia-China: a partnership for the future organised in Tunis at the headquarters of the Arab Institute of Business Leaders (IACE).

These agreements, which include an amount over 1,200 billion dinars, are in line with the objectives of the Tunisia 2020 conference (29-30 November 2016) and aim to deepen Tunisian-Chinese relations.

A first agreement was signed between Loukil Group and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) to finance the “Tunisia Africa Mall” shopping centre of the megaproject “Tunis financial harbour” in El HsayAne, Raoued (northern suburb of Tunis). According to Bassem Loukil, President and CEO of the Group, the cost of the project is about 65 million dollars and the Mall will span 200 thousand m2.

The second agreement was signed between ICBC and AMEN BANK to develop business relations between China and Tunisia, Amen Bank CEO, Ahmed Karam told TAP.

He added that this agreement aims to grant financing lines to AMEN BANK to help Tunisian companies invest in Africa, carry out joint ventures and to finance mega-projects that Tunisia cannot finance on its own, the latter requiring substantial capital.

Karam said that the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) expressed readiness to co-finance with Tunisia public-private partnerships.

The third Memorandum of Understanding was initiated between HUWAEI and the Industrial Company of Apparatus and Electrical Materials (SIAME).

SIAME CEO Mongi Jelassi said it is a collaboration for the development of a smart solution “SMART METERING”.

This smart metering, once ready, is meant or the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG).
