UGTT- Congress: Amendments to status adopted

Participants in the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) 23rd congress adopted Tuesday evening the draft amendment to the union’s status, replacing article 10 by article 20 which limits to two terms of office of the National Executive Committee.

The new status, counting 126 articles, regulates the trade union from its central structure to its sectoral, regional and local structures.

The new status sets out UGTT’s objectives after being summarily mentioned in the old status. These main objectives consist in defending the economic and social rights of workers, pensioners, defending the right to culture, freedom of creation, consolidation of the national culture which enshrines values of tolerance, banishment of violence And openness on all cultures, in addition to supporting the Arab liberation movements, on top of them the Palestinian national movement and the rejection of any relation with the Zionist entity.
