11 deaths by drowning were reported from June 1 to 19 on the Tunisian beaches against 3 during the same period last year, Director of the central operational room at the National Office for Civil Protection Colonel Salah Korbi said, describing this figure as “very high.”
The National Office for Civil Protection’s units had recorded during the past 24 hours, one more death by drowning in the Mrezga beach (Nabeul governorate), while 6 citizens had been rescued on the capital’s beaches, he specified to TAP.
The Civil Protection has mobilised its units all along the Tunisian beaches, he indicated, pointing to the considerable shortage of lifeguards during this season.
The official called in this regard, on the municipalities to provide the necessary funds to recruit lifeguards and provide them with the necessary equipment to ensure the citizens’ safety on the Tunisian beaches.
