1,194 Recruits Join Ghana Police Service Amid Integrity Calls

Accra: A total of 1,194 recruits have joined the Ghana Police Service amid calls to uphold the Service’s integrity and avoid actions that could damage its reputation. The new cohort consists of 633 females and 561 males who have successfully completed a rigorous six-month training program. This program covered essential areas such as police procedures, law of evidence, public order management, swimming, driving, communication skills, and child-friendly policing.

According to Ghana News Agency, the passing-out ceremony was marked by an address from Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, the Minister of Interior and reviewing officer. He emphasized the importance of integrity in service. ‘You are a servant so you must serve with integrity,’ he stated, urging the new recruits to embrace humility, courage, and lawful service. The Minister reminded the officers that their badge symbolized responsibility, not intimidation.

During the ceremony, the Minister admitted the new personnel into the Service, expressing confidence in their preparedness to address crime using the skills acquired during their training. Special recognition was given to six recruits who received awards for excellence in various categories, including conduct, physical training, drill, marksmanship, swimming, and academics. Notably, Sergeant Sophia Elikplim Dedjoe was named the overall best National female in academics.

The event was attended by dignitaries from the Police Management Board, traditional leaders, retired officers, representatives from sister security agencies, and families, highlighting the significance of the occasion for the recruits and the broader community.
