The number of irregular migrants dead or missing off Tunisian coasts reached 132 in the first quarter of 2023 (Q1), 97 of whom were in March, according to a report on irregular migration published by the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES). The report, based on official statements and survivors’ testimonies, indicates that 97 irregular migrants died or went misssing off the Tunisian coasts in March 2023, compared to 28 in January 2023 and 7 in February. During Q1 of the current year, 1,771 Tunisian irregular migrants managed to reach the Italian coasts, including 348 minors and 121 women, while irregular migration crossings carrying 14,082 persons of Tunisian and non-Tunisian nationality were foiled. According to the statistics, 660 Tunisian irregular migrants made it to the Italian coasts in March 2023, compared to 224 in March 2022 and 334 in March 2021.
