13th Arab Beekeepers Union Congress: Tunisia seeks to set up scientific beekeeping centre

The 13th Arab Beekeepers Union Congress due to be held October 27-30 in Tunis, will see the participation of almost 500 beekeepers including 200 participants from 20 Arab countries, said Secretary-General of the National Federation of Beekeepers Walid Nagara.

The event will offer the opportunity for 30 beekeepers to showcase their products and production methods, Nagara stated to TAP on Thursday.

Tunisia should seize the opportunity to raise the idea of creating a research centre in the beekeeping field.

In 2020, Tunisia produced nearly 2,800 tons of honey, thanks to the efforts of nearly 13 thousand beekeepers and the setting up of 220 thousand hives.

The Arab Beekeepers Union will hold its 13th congress on the fringes of the International Exhibition of Agriculture, Agricultural Machinery and Fisheries (SIAMAP-2021) scheduled for October 26-31 at the Kram Exhibition Centre.

This new edition is placed under the keynote: “The Bee is the solution,” for several reasons notably the environmental balance provided by the bee and the fight against climate change.

The Congress seeks mainly to endeavour to set up a centre specialised in scientific research in the beekeeping field in Tunisia.

The event will include conferences and workshops to share experiences in the beekeeping field at the national and international levels and introduce the new production methods.
