20% decrease in imports of automobiles for 2018 (Secretary of State for Foreign Trade)

Import of cars, for the year 2018, will be reduced by 20%, announced Thursday, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Hichem Ben Ahmed.

Ben Ahmed said, in a statement to the press, on the sidelines of the opening of the first edition of the International Motor Show in Sousse that an agreement between the Trade Ministry and the car sales dealers stipulates the reduction of car imports, given the worsening of the trade deficit and the decline in foreign exchange reserves.

He called on car sales dealers to better support the state’s efforts, through the export of some automobile components manufactured in Tunisia to manufacturers of international car brands.

Some 50 exhibitors, representing the dealers of the major international companies that market their products on the Tunisian market, as well as all the relevant structures and sectors, participate in the International Motor Show, which will run until 19 November 2017.

The show, held for the first time in the Sahel region after the shutdown of its organisation since 2007, registered the participation of leasing and insurance companies, in addition to banks, as well as major international sales companies, oil companies and companies selling spare parts, tires, oils and car accessories.
