Cantonments: It was all excitement at the 2025 New Horizon Fun Games, as children with special needs demonstrated their athletic abilities in a variety of sporting disciplines. From the extremely competitive 50-meter dash to the sack racing event at the school's park in Cantonments, the day was filled with enthusiasm, with all competing children receiving medals for their efforts.
According to Ghana News Agency, musical chairs, tug-of-war games, dance-offs, a football match, and drumming performances were among the entertaining games at this year's event, which was themed 'For a Righteous Man May Fall Seven Times and Rise Again (Prov. 24:16).' Madam Nana Abena Kwakyi, the Chairperson of this year's Fun Games, expressed her pride in being part of the event, emphasizing the legacy of the school's founder, the late Madam Salomey Francios. She stated that the games would contribute to enriching participants' health and improving their social lives.
Madam Abena Kwakyi highlighted the vision of New Horizon Special School as an institution that has championed special education in Ghana and beyond, focusing on a personalized approach to teaching and supporting learners with unique needs, achieving outstanding results. She urged society to seek more understanding about children with special needs and commit to supporting their causes for relevance and inclusivity.
Madam Mariama Obeng, Deputy Principal In-charge of Vocational Training, mentioned that the annual fun games were created to help students exhibit their potential. She noted the excitement among students during the games and emphasized the importance of patience in unearthing their talents, which, when identified, leads to productive engagement.
However, Madam Obeng also pointed out the high cost of care for children with special needs and urged the government and private organizations to provide more assistance.
