219 people attempting illegal immigration were intercepted by National Guard units last Thursday.
64 people were rescued on the coasts of Menzel Temime, Kélibia and Beni Khiar (Nabeul). They were trying to cross sea borders illegally and were carrying European currency.
Another illegal migration attempt was aborted off Teboulba (Monastir). Seven individuals including some wanted in common law cases and sentenced to prison terms, were arrested, reads a press release from the Interior Ministry.
Seventy-nine illegal migrants, including two wanted, were arrested in Mahrès in the governorate of Sfax. National Guard units in the region also apprehended 17 African nationals who sought to leave the country illegally.
The National Guard of Ghar El Melh (Bizerte) arrested three people who were about to leave the borders illegally.
In La Goulette (Tunis), seven individuals were arrested while trying to secretly board a merchant ship.
