Navy units, on Saturday, rescued 101 Tunisian irregular migrants aged between 15 and 52 years, 65 km from Chebba, governorate of Mahdia.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, the rescued migrants said they had set sail on Friday night to Europe. They were handed over to a Coast Guard unit at the fishing port of Mahdia to take the necessary measures against them.
The National Navy and the Coast Guard also rescued in a joint operation Saturday, 172 irregular migrants, including 131 Tunisians and 41 from different African countries 22 km from Chebba, said a second statement from the Ministry of Defence.
The migrants said they set off from El Amra, Sfax on Friday night and were heading to Europe.
They were transferred to the fishing port of Sfax to complete the necessary procedures against them.
In a third statement, the Ministry of Defence reported that 10 irregular Tunisian migrants, including two women and a 4-year-old child, were rescued Friday by a Navy unit 55 km off Mahdia.
The migrants set sail on Friday night from Chebba to Europe. They were handed over to the National Guard at the port of Monastir to take the necessary procedures against them.
