2,982 terrorism-related cases ruled on since 2015 (Sofiene Selliti)

Some 2,982 terrorism-related cases have been ruled on since 2015, spokesperson for the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division Sofien Selliti said Wednesday.

295 minutes of proceedings have been submitted to this division, he added.

Speaking at a press conference held Wednesday at the Judicial Economic and Financial Division in Tunis, Selliti noted that some 4,375 minutes of proceedings have been issued between October 2015 and March 2018.

Some 6,590 suspects have been arrested during this period, 66 placed into custody as part of investigations into terrorism cases and 1,512 cases were heard by investigating judges at the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division.

According to him, life-imprisonment and death sentences were handed down in seven cases.

Some 900 cases were ruled on, 500 of which were coupled with prison sentences from 2 to 30 years, he said. Prison sentences ranging from 1 to 15 years and from 2 to 40 years were handed down in the other 400 cases.
