2nd Conference of Ministers and officials of education and technical and vocational training in Arab world opens

Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Nasreddine Nssibi called Thursday, the Tunisian youth to join the vocational training to integrate into the labour market, recalling the motivations and encouragement provided by the ministry in this regard.

In a statement to the media on the sidelines of the opening in Tunis of the Second Conference of Ministers and officials of education and technical and vocational training in the Arab world, organized at the initiative of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) in partnership with the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training, the Minister stressed that his department offers young people the opportunity to register, free of charge, to all specialities available in the field of training.

Scholarships are granted to learners in some specialities of training in addition to the guarantee of all amenities and decent housing, he added.

He said the department is currently assessing the situation of vocational training in Tunisia to strengthen the training in sectors that the labour market needs and to abandon the training in specialities with low employability, stressing the intention to communicate, now, with young people through social networks so they can easily access information.

For his part, Director-General of ALECSO, Mohamed Ould Amar, stressed that the need for Arab societies in trades has no limit, and it is necessary to work to develop technical and vocational skills to meet the needs of basic services in all aspects of life and in all sectors, especially vital areas.

He called on the Arab countries to develop the field of technical and vocational education and training, diversify its channels, strengthen its capacity and provide it with modern technological means.

For his part, Director of the Department of Information and Communication Technology at ALECSO, Mohamed Jomni, called on Arab countries to take practical steps that would open new opportunities for the development of the technical and vocational education system and promote its performance in terms of governance and financing, in addition to the involvement of representatives of the private sector and the labour market in the work of planning, monitoring and follow-up of vocational education and training.

Representatives from 16 Arab countries participated in this face-to-face and distance learning meeting, as well as from relevant national, international and regional organisations.

The first conference of ministers and heads of technical and vocational education and training in the Arab world was held in 2017 in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
