KUMASI: A total of 315 artisans in the Ashanti Region are participating in a National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) standard examination, an initiative sponsored by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Foundation (GNPCF) as part of its Skilled Artisans Project. Successful candidates will receive start-up tools to help them begin their entrepreneurial journey, as part of the second phase of a project targeting 2,135 artisans across 12 regions in Ghana. According to Ghana News Agency, officials from the NVTI are assessing the artisans' work in various disciplines to certify them as qualified professionals. The examination is being conducted under the supervision of the NVTI at designated centers within the Kumasi Metropolis. Mr. Moses Antwi Benefo, Head of Media at GNPCF, emphasized the foundation's commitment to building entrepreneurial skills among Ghanaian youth during a media briefing at the Oforikrom Centre, where 56 artisans took their examination. Last year, 389 artisans in the Ashanti Regio n received start-up tools upon graduation, and the expectation is for similar support this year for successful candidates. Mr. Benefo noted the widespread nature of the project, which is occurring in 12 regions across Ghana simultaneously. Beyond scholarships and investment in formal education infrastructure, the GNPC Foundation also focuses on empowering youth in the informal sector economically. An impact assessment of phase one of the project indicates that beneficiaries are now training others in their respective fields. Mr. Benefo highlighted the multiplying effect of providing tools to these artisans, noting that the initiative has substantial value. He further assured that the selection process for beneficiaries is transparent, conducted in collaboration with partners such as the NVTI and Aseda Foundation, to ensure fairness. Mr. Benefo encouraged beneficiaries to use the tools to build sustainable businesses that enhance their livelihoods and support their dependents.
