(TAP) – 3,500 cases of breast cancer are reported each year in Tunisia, said Health Minister Ali Mrabet.
Kicking off a mobile health caravan for cancer screening on Saturday in El Fahs (Governorate of Zaghouan), the minister added that the health train will go to the governorates of Zaghouan, Siliana and Kef as part of the Pink October activities. Mrabet, who was accompanied by Minister of Women, Children and the Elderly Amal Belhaj and the Transport Minister, pointed out that a locomotive of this train is reserved to breast cancer screening, another one to COVID-19 tests and a third to vaccination against the coronavirus. The Health Minister affirmed on the other hand, that Tunisia has succeeded to a great extent in stemming the Coronavirus pandemic, pointing out that the number of Tunisians who have completed their vaccination scheme stands at nearly 4,100,000 citizens, or half of the individuals targeted by vaccination. He indicated that the ministry seeks to reach 80% of the target population in the coming days, underlining, however, the need to remain vigilant, as the threat persists. Amal Belhaj pointed out for her part, the importance of an early detection of breast cancer to increase chances of recovery, while endeavouring to step up health education actions to raise awareness about the risks of this disease. |
