39th edition of Tataouine International Festival of Sahara Ksours to be held from 21 to 24 March 2018

The 39th edition of the Tataouine International Festival of Sahara Ksours will be held from 21 to 24 March 2018, in collaboration with the ministries of cultural affairs and tourism and handicrafts as well as oil companies in the region.

In addition to the traditional activities and events, the festival will be preceded by the inauguration on 19 March of the International Handicrafts Fair at the Place des Arts and the organisation of a conference on “the image of resistance in contemporary Arabic poetry “. The Festival also features poetic and literary shows as well as demonstrations of individual sports.

The opening of the 39th edition of the festival will be marked by a carnival attended by several national and foreign folk singing troupes, and by an artistic show animated by Libyan singer Issam Tawil. On the programme of the closing party the show “Ziara” of Sami Lajmi in addition to a representation of the epic “NagaA al Badiya” and specific folk shows of the region.

At a press conference held on Saturday, Ksours International Festival director Abdessalem Khanjari said that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has allocated an envelope worth 80,000 dinars in addition to the subsidy for several shows. like “Ziara”, adding that the department is also committed to repay the debts of the previous edition of the festival.

In the same context, Khanjari indicated that the festival received the material support of the Ministry of Tourism (50 thousand dinars), the governorate of Tataouine (20 thousand dinars), the local municipality (10 thousand dinars), in addition to logistical support proposed by oil companies in the region by ensuring the reception and support of guests.

On this occasion, street entertainment was organised around the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts in order to promote the Tataouine International Festival of Saharan Ksours with a folklore show and poetry evoking heritage and sub-Saharan traditions in the region.
