TUNIS, The Tunisian authorities on Sunday found four corpses including one of a pregnant woman on the coast of an island in the Kerkennah peninsula.
The authorities said that the state of decomposition of the corpses shows that their death must have occurred some days before, Sfax regional prosecutor Faouzi Masmoudi said.
All the victims are of sub-Saharan African origins: three men and one woman.
The Tunisian authorities say that the migrants must have left on a boat from Tunisia or nearby Libya in an attempt to reach European coasts.
An investigation has begun to try to understand what happened to the other passengers in the boat.
Tunisian media have claimed that there had been the body of a young girl in the same spot where the other corpses were found.
The Sfax prosecutor instead stated that all the corpses found were of adults.
