5 youth arrested in Douar Hicher on suspicion of belonging to terrorist organization

Five young people aged between 20 and 25 were arrested on Thursday in the Khaled Ibn Al Walid neighbourhood in Douar Hicher (Manouba governorate) on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organisation abroad.

The group, arrested by the National Guard’s Manouba Research and Investigation Brigade, is suspected of holding secret meetings to recruit youth, a security source told TAP.

Some of them have publicly described security forces as taghouts.

The investigation revealed that one of them had glorified terrorism in social media.

The other four members acknowledged their belonging to Ansar Al-Sharia and participation in the attack on a National Guard station in Douar Hicher in 2014 in addition to other attempts to go for jihad in Syria in the same period.

The suspects were transferred to the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division.
