Up to 62% of women candidates in the run-off legislative elections to be held Sunday said they were victims of violence during the electoral campaign on-site and in social media, the Tunisian Mediterranean Centre (TU-MED) said in its campaign observation report.
The centre recorded a low participation of female candidates in the electoral campaign from January 16 to 26, 2023, noting that 50% of the 34 female candidates have used social media during their campaigns.
Pressure was exerted on 50% of them after announcing the results of the first round of the legislative elections, according to the same source.
Concerning TV-transmitted debates, 80% of female candidates in the run-off legislative elections described the experience as “positive,” while 90% of them reported no shortcomings therein.
