ActionAid Ghana Champions Girl Child Empowerment in Bimbilla

BIMBILLA: ActionAid Ghana, an NGO, marked the International Day of the Girl Child in Bimbilla, Nanumba North Municipality, Northern Region, with a series of educational and empowering activities for local students. The event, themed "Girls Vision for the Future," focused on addressing gender inequality, child marriage, and enhancing access to education and healthcare. According to Ghana News Agency, the annual observance of the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11 promotes awareness of the issues facing girls globally and underscores the importance of their well-being. ActionAid Ghana's event emphasized the organization's dedication to advocating for girls' empowerment. The gathering also gave a platform for members of the Girls Clubs Movement, a local initiative by ActionAid Ghana, to discuss leadership roles and their appropriateness for girls. Mrs. Beatrice Biije, a Programmes Officer at ActionAid Ghana, highlighted the event's focus on encouraging girls to remain in school and complete thei r education, which is crucial for their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country. She also noted that the event aimed to showcase the leadership qualities of the girls and address other issues impeding their comprehensive growth. During the event, Madam Bushira Alhassan, Northern Regional Director of the Department of Gender, spoke about the impact of women in leadership roles and its significance in breaking the cycle of poverty in communities. She encouraged the girls to pursue excellence driven by their vision and determination. Madam Adisah Abubakari, Girls Education Officer at the Nanumba North Municipal Education Directorate, stressed the importance of empowering girls to realize their full potential and the collective responsibility to protect women and girls from vulnerability and exploitation. Miss Shahidatu Abukari, a member of the Nanumba North Girls Club Movement, expressed gratitude towards ActionAid Ghana for inspiring them in leadership and responsibility.
