Adaklu District Inaugurates Child Protection Committee to Safeguard Future Generations

Adaklu: Mr. Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive, emphasized the importance of children as the greatest assets of any country during the inauguration of the Adaklu District Child Protection Committee at Adaklu Waya. He highlighted that without children, the country has no future, underscoring the committee's crucial role in safeguarding their well-being.

According to Ghana News Agency, the newly established 19-member committee, chaired by Mr. Sylvanus Plaha, the Adaklu District Coordinating Director, includes representatives from the Assembly, Social Welfare, the Police, Judiciary, and the Media. Mr. Ameko stated that due to their status as the greatest assets, children must be protected from all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence. He emphasized that the committee's work is vital in implementing Child Protection Policies and ensuring the safety and well-being of children in the district.

Mr. Ameko, who also serves as the Dean of Volta Region Municipal and District Chief Executives, urged the committee members to work diligently to minimize child abuse cases in the district. He emphasized the importance of effectively implementing Child and Family Welfare Policies and raising awareness about Child Protection, including prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse cases.

The District Chief Executive advised the committee to monitor all child abuse cases, collate data, and report such cases to law enforcement agencies like the Police (DOVVSU), Social Welfare, and the Courts. He directed them to identify and mitigate the abuse children face, while also providing support and building the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect children because of their vulnerability. Mr. Ameko encouraged the members to "work without fear or favor no matter whose ox is gored."

Mrs. Susan Akortia, the Adaklu District Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Secretary to the Committee, called on members to apply their expertise to the committee's work. She announced that training would soon be organized to equip them with the requisite knowledge for efficient and effective performance. Mrs. Akortia commended Mr. Ameko for his pivotal role in the committee's formation and inauguration, noting that it had been in planning for several years.
