Adentan NCCE Engages Youth on Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Efforts


Adentan: The Adentan Municipal office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a town hall meeting at Ashiyie for selected youth on the rule of law and the fight against corruption. The meeting, organised with support from the European Union (EU) and Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, brought together dressmakers, hairdressers, petty traders, and mechanics.



According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Sylvia Osei-Bonsu of the Adentan Police Station, serving as a resource person, emphasized the importance of the youth’s participation in combating corruption. She urged them not to be passive citizens and encouraged reporting corrupt practices to the relevant institutions.



Chief Inspector Francis Quainoo underscored the necessity for all citizens to abide by the law, indicating that law enforcers would enforce the law when required. He detailed various forms of corruption, including nepotism, cronyism, extortion, conflict of interest, bribery, and fraud.



Madam Araba Diaba, Head of the Madina Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), educated participants on the functions of her office and the Whistleblowers Act. She explained that CHRAJ investigates violations of fundamental human rights and addresses complaints of administrative injustice and unfair treatment by public officers. Additionally, CHRAJ investigates corruption, abuse of power, and misuse of public funds.



Madam Diaba highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of accountability and integrity, noting that CHRAJ engages the public through various educational initiatives. She explained the Whistleblowers Act, which protects citizens from harm after reporting crimes, and urged participants to report suspicious activity to the police. However, she cautioned against reporting assumptions or framing stories, advising certainty in crime reporting.
