Accra: Mr. George Spencer Quaye, Chief Executive Officer of MOBEX Africa, has called on African nations to take ownership of their digital future by investing in innovation, infrastructure, and inclusive policy frameworks that empower local solutions. He made the call at the MOBEX Africa Innovation Awards 2025 held in Accra, where stakeholders from across the continent gathered to celebrate a decade of digital transformation and innovation.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Quaye stated that the past two days of the MOBEX Africa conference had demonstrated that Africa was no longer waiting for permission to innovate. ‘We’re already doing it,’ he said, emphasizing that the continent was united by a compelling mission of Resetting Africa’s Digital Identity and Sovereignty. The conference brought together policymakers, regulators, innovators, investors, and visionaries to explore Africa’s digital destiny and debate policies that would shape the continent’s technological landscape.
Mr. Quaye highlighted the significance of the 2025 edition of the awards, marking 10 years since the inception of MOBEX Africa. He described it as a decade of championing Africa’s digital transformation and providing platforms for African innovators to shine. Reflecting on the journey since 2015, he acknowledged that the vision of MOBEX Africa was initially met with skepticism, but the progress made over the years had proven that Africa was not only ready but rising.
He expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners, and supporters who had believed in the vision from its early days and recognized the role of governments, regulatory bodies, and policymakers in shaping enabling environments for innovation. Mr. Quaye urged stakeholders to recommit to the work ahead, stating that the next decade of MOBEX Africa must be bolder, more impactful, and more collaborative. ‘The future is not something that happens to Africa. The future is something Africa creates,’ he asserted.
The MOBEX Africa Innovation Awards 2025 celebrated outstanding achievements in digital innovation across sectors, focusing on solutions that address African challenges through African ingenuity.
