Agortoe: The Agenda 111 hospital facility located in Agortoe, within the Anloga District of the Volta Region, has reached a completion status of 48 percent, Madam Seyram Sandra Kpedor, the District Chief Executive (DCE), has announced. The project is part of the previous government's ambitious Agenda 111 initiative, which aims to construct 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals, and several specialized healthcare facilities across the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Kpedor detailed that the Anloga District Hospital, situated at Agortoe, is designed to offer advanced facilities such as outpatient services, ophthalmology, dental services, a physiotherapy unit, and four modern surgical theatres. She mentioned that documents indicate the hospital will occupy a 15-acre site with an estimated construction cost of approximately US$17 million. The design incorporates sustainable elements to lower the carbon footprint, including solar harvesting and thermal mass, blending modern technology with a holistic approach.
The DCE noted that a visit to the site and a report from the constructors confirmed the project's 48 percent completion, with previous reports highlighting funding challenges and delays affecting its timeline. During a site visit with Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, the importance of addressing these delays was emphasized, and swift action on development gaps was pledged.
She further stated that areas such as the Out Patients Department (OPD) and other critical departments are nearing completion, with hopes for expedited construction to serve the healthcare needs of the community. The Anloga District Hospital is expected to significantly enhance healthcare access and improve health outcomes for residents upon completion.
The Ghana News Agency also reported that the government secured US $100 million from the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund to execute about 15 percent of the Agenda 111 works, with additional annual budgetary allocations planned for financing. The Agenda 111 hospital project is considered a transformative initiative for the country's healthcare system, aiming to set new standards on the continent by integrating 21st-century technology with contextual healthcare approaches.
Local residents in Anloga, Agortoe, and surrounding communities have expressed excitement over the project's potential to address healthcare gaps in the district. The initiative is also seen as a means to provide jobs and improve healthcare services in alignment with government efforts to enhance decentralized development. Additionally, construction of a new Anloga District Assembly structure and the residency of the DCE are progressing, contributing to the area's overall development.
