Agreement inked between Tunisia and UN to prevent violent terrorism

Secretary General of the Government and Chairman of the National Counter-Terrorism Commission Hedi Makeni, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tunis Diego Zorilla, signed Thursday in Tunis, an agreement on the project ” to prevent violent extremism in Tunisia through human rights-based development approaches “, for a total amount of $ 2.692,500.

Through this project, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will assist the government to further develop its national priorities for the Prevention of Violent Extremism ( PVE), already identified in the strategy against violent extremism and terrorism, to carry out communication and awareness-raising actions that strengthen ownership by the public of national efforts to prevent violent extremism, and to implement initiatives to prevent violent extremism.

The project advocates, in this framework, a tripartite platform between government actors, civil society and the private sector to strengthen the government’s efforts to prevent violent extremism.

The Swiss government has contributed by $ 1,687,500 to finance the project as part of the Swiss RESPECT programme for Tunisia.
