Agricultural research: 800 Tunisian scientific papers published

Scientific research in Tunisia helped propagate 40 vegetable plants, said Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Samir TaAeb. 800 scientific papers were also published in agricultural newsletters across the globe.

The Tunis-based National Institute for Agricultural Research (French: INRAT) signed 30 operating agreements with seed production companies, TaAeb Tuesday told participants in a workshop on the strategic orientations of scientific research by 2030. INRAT is allocated 3% of sales figures, he indicated.

There is need to devise a participatory scientific research strategy in addition to applied research programmes that involve technical centres, the National Institute of Field Crops and similar structures, the Minister said. The national strategy for the agricultural sector by 2030 is premised on technology and expertise transfer to bolster productivity.

The Minister also underlined the importance of organising technological innovation days to outline results of research.
