Ahanta West: Mr. Eric Danning, the Board Chairperson of the Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC, has highlighted the bank’s growth and profitability over the past forty years, attributing the success to strong corporate governance and resilience amidst challenges. He acknowledged the efforts of successive directors, managers, and staff in maintaining the bank’s fortunes despite numerous internal and external obstacles.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Danning, a professional lawyer and magistrate, spoke at the bank’s 40th anniversary durbar, themed ’40 years of Ahantaman Rural Bank – Impact on Stakeholders and Community.’ He reflected on the bank’s journey, particularly from 1995 to 2005, when it faced significant challenges but initiated pragmatic strategies and appointments that improved its fortunes by 2007. The bank also undertook computerization programs to enhance service efficiency and interconnectivity.

Mr. Danning announced that the bank is performing well in deposits, investments, advances, and other key
performance indicators. From its initial branch at Agona-Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipality, the bank has expanded to 23 branches with 453 staff across the Western and Central Regions. He also mentioned that the Bank of Ghana has approved dividend payments to shareholders, and the bank has made substantial investments in corporate social responsibility, including education, disaster support, and medical initiatives.

Mr. Samuel Gyimah Amoako, Head of Finance at ARB Apex Bank, rated Ahantaman Rural Bank as the second-largest network among rural banks in the country. He noted that the bank has consistently fulfilled its financial duties while working to alleviate poverty in the communities it serves.

Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, a former Director and Pioneer member of the bank, reminded current staff and management of the efforts of founding members and stressed the importance of preserving the values that established the bank. He recalled the contributions of individuals such as Mr. William Kojo Thompson, Pete
r Kwame Ansah, James Mike Abban, and Mr. Etru Inkumssah, who laid the groundwork for what has become a shining example of rural banking in Ghana.

The event concluded with honorary awards presented to management, staff, and key stakeholders in recognition of their contributions to the bank’s success.
