Akatsi South MCE Orders Removal of Illegal Structures at Main Lorry Station

Akatsi: The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region has undertaken a significant decongestion exercise aimed at removing illegal occupants and structures from the main lorry station. This initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, in collaboration with the assembly's task force, which included security personnel and other staff members.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Dagba stated during the operation that the primary focus was on dismantling illegal structures located on pavements, which were obstructing pedestrian movement and causing disruptions to the smooth flow of vehicular traffic. He emphasized that the exercise was also intended to promote order and discipline within the station and the main market of the Municipality.

Mr. Dagba revealed that a two-month notice had been issued via radio announcements and other mediums, urging traders to engage with the assembly to finalize necessary arrangements. However, some traders had deliberately ignored this call. Asserting his commitment to maintaining order throughout the Municipality, Mr. Dagba noted that his team would continue to engage in lawful demolishing, decongestion, relocation, and other development-oriented activities.

He further mentioned that dedicated task force members would be positioned at key locations within the central business areas to ensure strict adherence to the new directives. The task force was also working on developing a comprehensive database for all traders in the region. Mr. Dagba highlighted the importance of sustaining the exercise and assured that the task force would strive to preserve the improvements brought about by the directives.

Mr. Dagba appealed to residents, traders, hawkers, and transport operators to fully cooperate with the task force to ensure the initiative's success. The Ghana News Agency observed that the exercise involved Assembly Members and other key stakeholders to achieve absolute order throughout the Municipality.

Residents expressed optimism that the new directives would lead to a well-organized town, enhancing the quality of life and making Akatsi South a more appealing place to live, work, and visit. However, some affected traders expressed concerns about the lack of in-depth consultations regarding the move.

Akatsi South is recognized as a bustling commercial community, housing one of the largest markets in the Volta Region and beyond.
