Al-Irada holds 1st elective congress, April 29-May 1

The first elective congress of the Al-Irada party will be held April 29-May 1, on the theme: “Determination and Hope,” with attendance of over 362 participants.

According to the party, some 108 local offices have been set up and motions related to governance, decentralisation and sustainable economy have been developed.

At a press conference on Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Ariana, Secretary-General Adnen Mansar highlighted the political, economic and social implications of the elective congress motions and the party’s position about national issues, including popular movements in several regions and the draft law on economic reconciliation.

The Al-Irada party supports all peaceful protest movements to claim the right to development and employment, Mansar said, considering that the visit of the Prime Minister to Tatouine where a general strike has been observed “does not have the necessary factors to its success as it does not bring any solution or alternative to the inhabitants’ concerns.”

Regarding the reconciliation lawl, Al-Irada’s secretary-general pointed out that the party is “determined to bring down this project by legal means as it undermines the transitional justice process, opens the way to the return of the corruption system and provides legal protection for future corrupt persons.”

Asked about Al-Irada’s participation in the forthcoming municipal elections, Mansar said there is no need to organise municipal elections in the absence of an obvious consecration of local governance, calling for the adoption of the Local Government Code as soon as possible.
