ACCRA: The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced the donation of 1,500 dual desks to three selected basic schools in Accra, aiming to enhance the educational environment and facilitate improved learning experiences for students. This initiative is part of the AMA's ongoing efforts to support education within the metropolis. According to Ghana News Agency, the donation was presented by Mrs. Elizabeth Sackey, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, who emphasized the Assembly's commitment to providing comfortable learning conditions for students. She noted that this annual donation is integral to ensuring students have access to essential educational resources, such as desks, to better support their educational journey. "We undertake this activity yearly to support the education system, to ensure that students have access to desks and other educational materials to make them comfortable in their learning," Mrs. Sackey stated. She encouraged the schools' authorities to promote a culture of maintenanc e, urging them to teach students the importance of taking care of the desks to foster a sense of responsibility. Mrs. Sackey also assured that the Assembly would continue to undertake more educational projects to further improve the educational landscape in Accra. Mrs. Justine Ivy Apawu, the Accra Metro Education Director, received the desks on behalf of the schools and expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the AMA. She highlighted that last year's desk donation had already made a positive impact, and the increased support this year was timely due to rising student admissions. Mrs. Apawu also acknowledged the Accra Mayor for her swift response to the schools' educational needs, including providing transportation during the Basic Education Certificate Examination period. This gesture, she mentioned, would help students maintain focus and comfort during their studies.
