Amnesty International’s regional office in Tunis hands over archives to IVD

A delegation from the Amnesty International Regional Office in Tunis on Wednesday handed over to the Truth and Dignity Commission (French : IVD) all the organisation’s archives on Tunisia (early 90’s to 2011), reveals the IVD on its official website.

The electronic records of Amnesty International’s Tunis office include its reports as well as the reports and correspondence of victims of human rights violations, the IVD said.

IVD president Siheme Ben Sedrine emphasised the importance of documenting to fight against impunity and to share the memory in order to render justice to the victims as well as the role of Amnesty International researchers of its preservation, claiming that the organisation “accompanied the struggle of the Tunisian people for freedom”.

The delegation of Amnesty International’s regional office in Tunisia was made up of North Africa Campaign Director Najia Bounaim, Assistant Studies, Campaign and Communications Officer Amna Chaabane, and Researcher Fida Hammami.

“We are happy to share the Tunisian experience of transitional justice and contribute through the documents we have been able to learn about the violations of human rights in Tunisia,” said Bounaim on this occasion.
