The Association of Tunisian Judges (AMT), on February 12, decided to convene judges to a protest rally, on Thursday, outside the Court of Cassation.
The move will denounce «the attempts to submit the judiciary to the executive power,» the AMT said in a statement on Tuesday.
It urged all judges to postpone hearings by one hour and to wear the red armband «until the judiciary regains its initial position and structural independence.»
The AMT’s executive bureau called on judges of all orders to make the protest a success, to combat the «dangers» presented by the decree-law 11-2022.
This decree, issued on February 12, 2022, stipulates the creation of the provisional Supreme Judicial Council.
