Tarkwa nsuaem: More than 1,500 residents from Akyempim and surrounding areas participated in a free health screening organized by AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine. The quarterly medical outreach, aimed at promoting good health within the host communities, aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal three, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages. According to Ghana News Agency, the screening included tests for diabetes, blood pressure, malaria, and eye and dental diseases. Participants received free medication, and those with complications were referred to appropriate health facilities for further diagnosis and treatment. The Health Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Dr. Kwesi Annor, emphasized the company's commitment to ensuring the health of its host communities is not adversely affected. He highlighted the comprehensive nature of the outreach, which extended services to additional communities such as Bankyim, Akyem, Jerusalem, and Charlekrom. Dr. Annor exp lained the inclusion of specialized services like Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) examinations, alongside dental and eye care, to effectively address the full spectrum of health needs in the community. He noted that the initiative not only aims to improve residents' health status but also alleviate pressure on existing public health systems. Over the years, the mine has registered thousands of individuals onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and constructed health centers in Adieyie, Berdukrom, and Teberebie communities. The program underscores AngloGold Ashanti's dedication to healthcare as a core sustainability initiative. Dr. Annor stressed the importance of regular medical screenings and urged the community and Ghanaians to utilize the free services offered. He described the exercise as successful, with comprehensive screening provided to all attendees. A participant, Madam Akosua Korang Aidoo, expressed gratitude for the event, noting that financial constraints often prevent individuals from acc essing necessary medical care.
