“Anyone plotting against Tunisia abroad should be charged with conspiring against State security” (President)

Whoever plots against Tunisia abroad must be charged with conspiring against the security of the state at home and abroad,» said President of the Republic Kais Saied on Thursday at the opening of the Cabinet Meeting of the Najla Bouden government.

«Tunisia is a free and independent state; it is out of the question to interfere in its affairs.»

The diplomatic passport of anyone who travels to foreign capitals to jeopardise Tunisia’s interests will be withdrawn, he added, referring to former President Moncef Marzouki who called last Sunday on the French authorities «not to support the coup in Tunisia.»

Marzouki, who described the measures announced by the Head of State on July 25 as a coup, welcomed the proposal of the Permanent Council of the Francophonie, held last Tuesday, to postpone the 18th summit of the Francophonie, initially scheduled for November 20 and 21 in Djerba.

President Saied urged the Justice Minister to launch a judicial investigation under Article 23 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, stressing that «sovereignty belongs to the people.»

In the same context, Saied questioned the fact that Tunisia is on the agenda of foreign parliaments, referring to the hearing session held Thursday by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. Congress on developments in Tunisia.

«We maintain cooperative relations, but in respect of the sovereignty and will of the people,» he said.

The President announced that a presidential decree on the dialogue to be held soon will be issued.

It is a dialogue different from the previous ones that will be held with the youth and the Tunisian people, he stated.

He called on all officials to redouble their efforts to meet the challenges facing the country.
