Arab human rights officials recommend training programme for prison staff

Participants in the 3rd Conference of human Rights officers at the Arab Ministries of the Interior recommended the organisation of a human rights training programme for prison employees.

On the agenda of the meeting is the consideration of the draft Arab Strategy for the Promotion of the Culture of Human Rights in Security Action.

This draft strategy will be presented at the next conference of the Arab Ministers of the Interior.

Participants also recommended the development of a dedicated website for human rights stakeholders at the Arab Ministries of the Interior.

The project of the site as well as the Qatari proposal for the creation of an Arab magazine specialising in security and human rights issues will be subsequently evaluated by a group of experts before being submitted to the conference of interior ministers.

The experiences of the different Arab Ministries of the Interior on human rights were presented at the meeting.

Participants discussed a model of human rights administration.

Representatives of the Ministries of the Interior of the Arab States, the League of Arab States, the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, the Officer of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
