Arab Institute for Human Rights presents paper to integrate migrants in labour market

The Arab Institute for Human Rights, on Wednesday, presented a paper on «Adjusting the Labour Market for Migrants,» suggesting scenarios for the economic integration of migrants.

It advocates structuring the informal labour market, by providing additional revenues to the National Social Security Fund to raise economic growth indicators.

The paper, which was presented at a workshop, highlighted the possibility of using the informal labour sector to integrate workers, in order to benefit from the added value it will bring to the social security fund.

The first scenario suggests reducing informal work to 100%, i.e. to benefit from the contribution of about 53,490 migrants in Tunisia, which could generate revenues estimated at 20 million dinars for national social security fund, according to this document.

In the second scenario, informal work would be reduced by 50%, especially for sub-Saharan migrants, whose number amounts to 21,466, which will provide revenues of 10 million dinars to the National Social Security Fund.

The Arab Institute for Human Rights recommended putting in place a legal framework in line with international standards, ratifying conventions relating to migrant workers, revising texts contrary to international standards and developing a reliable data system on migration issues, in partnership with the relevant United Nations agencies.

The document was presented within the framework of the project «A dignified migration for development in Tunisia» financed by the Swiss Confederation.
