Armed man arrested while trying to enter parliament

An armed man was arrested on Tuesday by the Presidential Guard units while trying to enter the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR).

“The young man was accompanied by Ennahdha Movement MP Radhia Ettoumi. He was trying to enter the parliament through the main gate but was arrested immediately by the police,” TAP learnt from an informed source at the HPR.

According to the same source, a bladed weapon was found in his possession.

MP Radhia Ettoumi affirmed that she does not know the man. According to her, she had only brought him along at the request of Ennahdha MP Zayneb Brahmi who had been receiving a group of students from the Gafsa governorate.

According to the HPR’s rules of procedure, each MP has the right to bring along three guests to the Parliament.

For her part, Zayneb Brahmi said that a group of students from Gafsa had contacted her in order to attend the HPR plenary session as part of opening on the school environment and civil society.
