The Parliamentary Committee on Revolution Martyrs and Injured and Implementation of General Amnesty and Transitional Justice, on Monday, decided to send a letter to the President of the Republic concerning the official apology to be presented to the victims of dictatorship.
Committee members requested a meeting with the Prime Minister to set the next steps and define the forms of communication between the committee and the Prime Ministry.
This comes in application of Article 70 of the law on transitional justice and Article 93 of the rules of procedure of the House of People’s Representatives (French: ARP).
The MPs also stressed the need to remind the government of the deadline set at June 24, which was fixed in accordance with Article 70 of the Law on Transitional Justice.
The government must, before the expiry of the deadline, present its programme to implement the recommendations of the Truth and Dignity Commission (French: IVD).
The MPs also decided to meet with representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council (French: CSM) and to visit the National Archives to learn about the conservation modalities of the IVD archives, paper and audiovisual.
They regretted the failure to execute the IVD’s recommendations concerning the apology to the victims of dictatorship, noting that to date; no ruling has been issued by Transitional Justice divisions.
The Committee members also mentioned the failure to review legislation that served as a tool of repression under the former regime.
However, they welcomed publishing the IVD report and opening an account for the Commission, which, they stressed, needs to be activated.
They also voiced satisfaction over publishing the final list of martyrs and wounded of the Revolution.
