The House of the People’s Representatives (ARP) voted, on Thursday, to postpone the examination of the draft organic law No. 66/2019 on the promulgation of the water code, with 115 votes in favour and two abstentions.
Indeed, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Food Security, Trade and Related Services, Moez Belhadj Rhouma called on the First Vice- Speaker of the ARP, Samira Chaouachi to postpone the discussion of the said project to a later date to be set by the ARP Bureau.
Belhadj Rhouma said that “the postponement of the examination of this bill, which still has some gaps, will allow for a better study of more than 30 amendment proposals that have been made by the deputies so that the participatory approach is respected and to ensure a better unanimity around this bill.
He recalled that all the proposals that have been sent to the Agriculture Committee since December 17, 2020 have been taken into consideration.
He also said that partial or total amendments have been made to more than 95 articles, i.e. more than 80% of the articles in accordance with the proposals put forward by experts and civil society, adding that 25 articles have been maintained as initially presented.
