At least 40 MPs lodge complaint for unconstitutionality of law on Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Authority

Ahmed Seddik, chairman of the Popular Front parliamentary bloc (PF), said that a petition was filed Wednesday with the Provisional Authority for the Control of the Constitutionality of Bills (French: IPCCPL) for the unconstitutionality of the law on the Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Authority.

Forty deputies of the various parliamentary groups signed the petition against this law voted on July 19, he told TAP.

In this context, he recalled that the Rules of Procedure of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) require the signature of at least 30 Members of Parliament to bring an action.

In a video posted on facebook page of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, INLUCC President Chawki Tabib called on Tuesday to assume their responsibility and appeal against the constitutionality of the draft law on Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Authority, indicating that “either the draft law in question or the whole Constitution should be amended”.

For the president of the PF bloc, the deputies voted a law “unconstitutional and contrary to international conventions and treaties”.

“The prerogatives attributed to this body are incomplete and contrary to Article 130 of the Constitution, which has clearly defined its mission”.

On July 19, the House of People’s Representatives adopted draft Organic Law No. 2017-38 on Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Authority with 116 votes in favour, 10 against and 5 abstentions.
