Tema: A newborn baby was discovered abandoned in a manhole in Tema Community One, Site 12, and has since been rescued and taken to the Tema General Hospital for medical attention. The baby, found on Wednesday evening, had been left with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached, indicating it was abandoned immediately after birth. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Charles Amos, the Assemblyman for the Padmore Electoral Area, reported receiving a call from local residents about the discovery. The residents successfully retrieved the baby from the manhole before Mr. Amos arrived at the scene. Despite being found in an unhealthy condition, the baby was alive and subsequently taken to the Tema Community One Police Station, where a formal report was made before the baby was sent to the hospital. Mr. Amos emphasized the need for increased public awareness regarding the safe transfer of unwanted children to Social Welfare and other relevant institutions. He highlighted that abandoning a baby is a criminal o ffense punishable by law. He urged the community to provide any information about the baby's mother and advised adolescent girls against abandoning their babies, instead encouraging protective measures for those who are sexually active.
