Accra: Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on Tuesday commissioned the newly constructed Parliament Supplementary Office building complex at Parliament House in Accra. The five-storey building complex, located behind the Job Six Hundred Annex Building Block, will house the Parliamentary Training Institute, key departmental offices, commercial banks, and convenience shops. According to Ghana News Agency, the construction of the office complex commenced in June 2021, with Messrs. ADK Consortium as the project consultant and Messrs. China State Hualong Construction Limited as the contractor. The event was attended by notable figures, including former Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye and Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, a Member of the Parliamentary Service Board and the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Reverend Aku Ofori Boateng, Director of Programmes of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, dedicated the building. In his address, Speaker Bagbin expressed his joy over the completion of the proj ect and lauded the contributions of his predecessors, such as Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye and Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho. He stated that the inauguration marks a significant milestone in enhancing the infrastructure base of the Parliamentary Service, as part of strategies to transform the institution into a resilient and dynamic parliamentary administration. Speaker Bagbin highlighted the various policies and measures implemented by the Parliamentary Service Board over the past three and a half years to improve support services to Parliament. These reforms included the approval of a new organisational structure and the recruitment of new officers to fill key vacancies, aiming to bring more professionalism and efficiency to the operations of the Parliamentary Service. He emphasized the critical need for infrastructure expansion alongside these reforms to achieve the set objectives. The Speaker noted that the new complex is designed to meet the evolving needs of the organisation, with flexible workspaces and cutti ng-edge technology. He assured that efforts to improve infrastructural facilities and create a working environment of international standards would continue. The inclusion of commercial stores aims to enhance productivity by reducing time spent searching for necessities for the smooth running of various offices, including those of Members of Parliament. Speaker Bagbin commended Messrs. ADK and Messrs. China State Hualong Construction Limited for their diligent work in completing the project on schedule. He also acknowledged the dedicated officers of Parliament's Development Services Sub-Division for their tireless efforts. He encouraged all to take ownership of the space and maintain it proactively. Mr. Cyril K.O. Nsiah, the Clerk to Parliament, expressed gratitude to Speaker Bagbin and Members of the Parliamentary Service Board for their dedication to improving the infrastructure, which facilitates the attainment of organizational goals.
