Bardo knife attack: Public Prosecutor’s Office orders investigation into leaked video of police interrogation

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered an investigation into a leaked video of the interrogation of the Bardo knife-attacker, Spokesperson for the Court of First Instance and Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division told TAP on Thursday evening.

The attack cost the life of Commander Riadh Barrouta who died on Thursday after being stabbed by the attacker in Bardo Square, Interior Ministry press officer Yasser Mosbah told TAP earlier this morning.

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed had instructed the Minister of the Interior to initiate an administrative investigation to reveal the identity of those who leaked the video of the interrogation.

The PM asked the Minister of the Interior to determine the responsibilities in this case.

A source at the Ministry of the Interior told TAP “the investigation will affect all parties involved in the case”.

Several websites on Thursday published part of the interrogation of Zied Ben Salem Gharbi who on Wednesday attacked a traffic police patrol, fatally stabbing Commander Riadh Barrouta in the neck and wounding Captain Mohamed Aidi on the front before being arrested by security forces.

The prosecutor’s office on Wednesday ordered the detainee to be held in police custody and handed over to the national terrorist crime investigation unit in El Gorjani.

Born in 1992, the attacker has no criminal record, said the spokesman for the judicial counter-terrorism division.

He admitted to having embraced the Takfiri thought three years ago and that he was preparing to join terrorist groups in Libya.
