Basma Makhlouf Shabou awarded International Chevalier of Order of Arts and Letters of France

Basma Makhlouf Shabou, PhD in Information Sciences and Director of the Master’s Department in Information Sciences at the Geneva School of Management (HEG), officially received on June 01, the Order of Arts and Letters awarded to her by the French Ministry of Culture for 2021, at a ceremony held at the HEG seat in Geneva (where the doctor teaches).

Consul General of France in Geneva Patrick Lachaussée handed over this award to Dr. Basma Makhlouf Shabou in recognition of her competence, her influence in the field of information science and archives at the international and regional levels and the culmination of a successful professional career with excellence in the field of research, development, preservation, good governance and management of information and data.

Shabou has been ranked first amongst the 8 best women in data preservation, information and records management in Africa for 2022, in recognition of her efforts and contribution to the modernisation of this field and the introduction of new techniques and development of records and data management methods.

The award was given on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8 each year), when the African magazine ArchivInfos, which specialises in the field of updating and protecting archives and information processing, picked Dr Basma Makhlouf Shabou as the best and most eminent expert in this field in Africa in its 2022 edition.

The Order of Arts and Letters is a French honorary decoration administered by the Ministry of Culture, which rewards “persons who have distinguished themselves by their creation in the artistic or literary field or by the contribution they have made to the promotion of the arts and letters in France and in the world.”
