Ben Gharbia affirms government’s keenness to solve issue of Tunisian children in Libyan prisons

Minister of Human Rights and Relations with Constitutional Authorities and Civil Society Mehdi Ben Gharbia reaffirmed the government’s keenness to solve the case of the Tunisian children who are currently in Libyan prisons.

He highlighted, at a meeting he had on Tuesday with members of the Assistance Association for Tunisians Stranded Abroad, the efforts made by the Foreign Ministry, in co-ordination with the concerned structures to help these families recover their children safe and sound.

The Tunisian State fully assumes its responsibility towards all Tunisians and is continuing its efforts in co-ordination with Libyan sides to find the best legal and practical formulas to solve the Tunisian children’s issue and guarantee their treatment in strict compliance with human rights.

The minister had met previously with UNICEF Representative in Tunisia Lila Pieters to discuss the issue of Tunisian children stranded in Libya and ways to activate co-operation for their repatriation in the best conditions.
